Step-by-step install

  1. 1In Anki desktop, open Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons…
  2. 2Paste the code for the add-on you want and click OK. Anki downloads and installs in a few seconds.
  3. 3Restart Anki when prompted. The add-on registers its menu items on launch.
  4. 4For AnkiBoss: open Tools → AnkiBoss → Settings and paste your account token (find it on your dashboard). For NASCARD: same path, then Join Race.

Troubleshooting

The add-on doesn't appear after install
Fully quit Anki (Cmd+Q on macOS, not just close the window) and reopen. The add-on registers its menu items at launch.
I'm on Anki 2.1.49 or older
Both add-ons require Anki 2.1.50 or later. Download the latest Anki from apps.ankiweb.net and reinstall.
Apple Silicon Mac (M1/M2/M3): nothing happens after restart
Make sure you're on the official Qt6 build of Anki (not the legacy Qt5 build). The Apple Silicon build of Anki 2.1.50+ is fully supported.
AnkiDroid / AnkiMobile
Add-ons run on Anki desktop only. The companion mobile apps don't support Python add-ons, but synced cards reviewed on desktop pick up the explanations.
Where do I paste my account token?
In Anki: Tools → AnkiBoss → Settings. The token lives on your dashboard at ankiboss.com/dashboard once you've signed in.
